Live Edge Natural Acacia Chopping Board

Shaped by nature, finished by hand

Each of these boards retains the live edge of the acacia it was cut from, the natural, flowing contour formed as the tree grew. Because of this, every board is unique. Yours will have its own edge profile, its own knots, and its own contrast between rich dark heartwood and paler sapwood.

These are the marks of genuine solid timber, and they are what make each board one of a kind.

At a full 5 cm thick, this is a board with real substance. It stays firmly in place while you work, absorbs the impact of the knife, and offers the reassuring solidity of professional kitchen equipment.

Choosing Your Width

Large (50 cm) — the statement board

Generous enough to carve a whole roast, prepare a spatchcocked chicken, or roll pastry without reaching the edge. The additional surface allows you to work in zones, prepared ingredients on one side, work in progress on the other, rather than clearing as you go. It also serves beautifully at the table, whether presenting a charcuterie selection, a cheese course, or simply warm bread among friends.

Small (35 cm) — the everyday board

Ideal for daily preparation. There is ample room for an onion, a bunch of herbs and a chicken breast without crowding, yet it remains light enough to lift comfortably in one hand and carry across the kitchen. It suits most standard worktops, leaving space to work on either side. If you cook regularly and want a board that earns its place on the counter, this is the one to choose.

Live edge is a natural feature. Shape, colour and grain vary from board to board, so no two are ever alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose acacia wood for a chopping board?

Acacia is a dense tropical hardwood that's naturally hard wearing and water resistant, thanks to its high natural oil content. It stands up to daily use far better than softer woods or bamboo, resists moisture and staining, and has a beautiful, richly varied grain. It's also naturally kind to your knives, helping to preserve your blade's edge.

Is acacia wood antibacterial?

Yes. Like many hardwoods, acacia has natural antibacterial properties, and its tight, dense grain gives bacteria far less opportunity to take hold than scored plastic does. Washing by hand after each use and drying thoroughly keeps your board hygienic.

Is acacia wood gentle on knives?

Yes. Genuine hardwood has enough natural give to cushion the blade as it cuts, unlike hard plastic, which blunt knives quickly. End grain boards are especially kind to knives, as the blade slips between the wood fibres rather than scraping across them.

What's the difference between end grain, edge grain and live edge boards?

End grain boards are built with the wood fibres standing upright, so the knife meets the tips of the fibres, this makes for a self healing surface that resists knife marks and is the gentlest on your blades (the construction used in professional butcher's blocks).

Edge grain boards have the fibres running lengthways, giving a hard wearing, stable surface that's excellent value for everyday use.

Live edge boards keep the natural, flowing outer contour of the timber, making each one unique in shape and character.

How do I care for my acacia chopping board?

Wash by hand in warm, soapy water after each use and dry it standing on its edge so air can circulate. Never put it in the dishwasher and never leave it to soak, as prolonged water exposure can cause wood to warp or crack. Treat it well and it will last for many years.

My board looks slightly scarred from knife marks. Is this normal?

Absolutely. Wood is a natural material designed to take the brunt of your knife blades to protect them from going blunt. While edge grain and live edge boards will show scars over time, you can easily restore them. Simply give the dry board a light sanding with fine grit sandpaper, wipe away the dust, and reapply board oil to make it look brand new.

How often should I oil my chopping board?

We recommend oiling roughly once a month, or whenever the wood starts to look dry. Use a food safe mineral oil or a dedicated board oil, applied with a cloth and left to soak in.

Regular oiling nourishes the wood, keeps it water resistant, and deepens its natural colour over time.

Are your acacia boards sustainably sourced?

Yes. Acacia is a fast maturing hardwood, making it a more responsible choice than many slower growing timbers, so you get a premium, long lasting board without the environmental cost.
