Frequently Asked Questions
What is Meant by the Term Hand Forged?
Hand forging is a traditional metalworking process that involves shaping metal using compressive forces, typically applied with hammers and anvils.
This age-old technique is still used today to create unique home and garden decor items, giving them a distinctive texture and character that can’t be replicated by mass produced products.
Are Hand Forged Items Good Quality?
Absolutely. Hand forging is renowned for its superior quality due to the personal care and attention to detail each crafted piece receives.
Unlike mass-produced items, hand-forged home and garden decor is meticulously worked upon by skilled artisans to enhance strength and durability, ensuring that each item is not only aesthetic but also built to last.
Are Hand Forged Items Long Lasting?
Yes, hand forged products are incredibly long lasting due to the intensive process that strengthens the material.
The techniques enhance the metal’s natural properties, making hand forged items more resilient against wear and tear than their machine-made counterparts
Are Hand Forged Items Sustainable?
Hand forged products are typically more sustainable than those produced by modern industrial methods.
The forging process usually requires less energy and produces fewer emissions compared to contemporary manufacturing processes.
Due to their durability and the use of recyclable metals, hand-forged items promote sustainability by minimising the need for frequent replacements.
The appreciation for craftsmanship can also foster a culture of quality and preservation over disposability.
Is Hand Forging and Casting Similar?
No, hand forging and casting are two distinct methods.
Hand forging involves heating metal until pliable and then physically shaping it with tools, maintaining the metal’s integrity.
Whereas, casting involves pouring molten metal into a mould.
Can Hand Forged Products Be Used Outdoors?
Yes, many hand forged home and garden items are specifically designed for outdoor use.
The materials and techniques used in hand forging produce items that can endure the elements, making them perfect for enhancing outdoor as well as indoor spaces.
